Alchemy: “A seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.”
Why an entire page about alchemy? Why not a blog post?
Perhaps this page should have simply been a post. But, the idea of emotional or spiritual alchemy seemed too big and too interesting to eventually have it become lost in a sea of posts. Instead, it is a permanent page and concept.
Back to the subject at hand. Alchemy. I met with a dear friend recently who referred to me as a type of alchemist. I really loved the word and decided to delve more deeply into it. According to Merriam Webster’s first definition of Alchemy it is: “A science that was used in the Middle Ages with the goal of changing ordinary metals into gold.” It is their second definition, however, that held more meaning for me: “A power or process that changes or transforms something in a mysterious or impressive way.”
At the time of this writing, I am 51 years of age. My life has had many ups, downs, and lots of sidewayses (not a real word, until now!). It is only recently that I have been able to look over my life up until this point and to see it as a process that has changed me in “mysterious and impressive ways.”
I truly love this concept. It is one of my truest desires that through our work together, you discover the alchemic process that has been, and continues to be, your life. To that end, I suppose we can use Merriam Webster’s first definition of Alchemy as we are able to see the ordinary as gold.
